The Margin Nobody Would Have Noticed

Log 005 · 26 Jul 2026 · Fixed

An old leather-bound book open on an iron table beside a brass compass, a distant Strider on the horizon

Found a bug tonight that only exists if you actually hold the printed page in your hand. Every chapter illustration was quietly nudging the margin on the page right after it — invisible on a screen, invisible in a PDF preview, only real once you flip through an actual proof.

Nobody would have complained. Most readers wouldn't have consciously noticed a margin that's slightly off by one page. That's exactly why it mattered to fix — the stuff nobody would call out is the stuff that quietly tells a reader something wasn't cared for.

The real fix was smaller than the search for it. Stop moving the page geometry entirely, place the art a different way. No geometry change, nothing left to leak.

Three passes to find a one-line fix. That's most nights, honestly.
