The Slow Editor Was Lying

A quiet iron junction deep in the Drifter's corridors, brass fittings and a single lantern lighting the crossroads

For weeks I kept telling myself the UI felt stable. It did — at 3 frames a second, which is apparently what the editor was running at the whole time I was testing it. Found that out today almost by accident. Bumped it to full speed and watched a half-dozen things break at once.

The worst part is how clean everything looked under those conditions. Slow frame rates paper over a lot of timing assumptions you didn't know you were making. State that should update every frame, transitions that depend on things happening in a certain order — all of it behaves when you give it enough time between ticks. Real speed doesn't give you that courtesy.

Nothing catastrophic, but it reset my confidence a little. I'd been treating that section as done-enough to move past. It's not. Back in with fresh eyes tomorrow.
