Starting the Hulls Over

Log 023 · 27 Sep 2026

A quiet iron junction deep in the Drifter's corridors, brass fittings and a single lantern lighting the crossroads

Some days the right call is to throw work away. Today we measured the Grindwalker hulls properly and they did not survive it. About 86 thousand triangles stretched across nearly 700 metres of ship, no interior at all, and portholes that came out around seven metres wide. One big texture across the whole thing gave about 12 pixels per metre. Up close it would have looked like cardboard.

So the hulls get rebuilt. The portholes are gone completely and slatted vents take their place. It hurts a little because those hulls have been in every render for weeks.

Same story on the Drifter. The cleaner rebuild we tried came out boring and boxy, and honestly the running gear on the original was the best looking part of the whole ship. We are going back to the original hull and scaling the gear up. Better to admit it now than polish something I do not love.
