The Robot Got Stuck on the Stairs

A residential corridor deck aboard the Drifter, families at their doorways, a welcome mat set into the floor tiles

I built a little test driver today that walks my character around the Drifter on a fixed route with nobody at the keys. The point is simple. I want to run real tests from my phone during the week without sitting at the build machine.

The short loop was fine. It walked from where I spawn, down the corridor and out onto the stern deck and back, eight points out of eight, with the ship moving the whole time. The longer circuit was humbling. It got stuck at the top of the stairs, twice, in the same spot. The opening there is 58 centimetres and the character is 68 centimetres wide. A human player might have wiggled through and never noticed. The robot just stood there and reported STUCK, which is exactly what I need it to do.

So now there is a rule I want us to keep. Every walking path gets about 90 centimetres clear, every stair gets checked with a real character shape, and every new build has to pass a full walk before anyone calls it done. That stairwell goes on the list.
